Editorial: Signs from Heaven and the Expansion of Divine Inclusion — By João Vendemiatti

The last few years have been marked by profound spiritual experiences and revelations that shape how the faith community understands its mission in the latter days. Two recent accounts—the vivid testimony of Brother Diego de Oliveira Ferreira about the events at the Zion Refuge in Agudo, Rio Grande do Sul, and the doctrinal article written by Sister Rafaela Berger about the inclusive revelation of 2020—show that the heavens continue to speak, guide, and expand our understanding of the divine calling.

In Diego’s account, we experience the sincere and moving record of a night when the sacred became visible. He describes lights that crossed the sky, signs of manifestations of Heavenly Authorities, and a culminating moment: the communication that Moroni had given a sign. According to Diego, many saw the great light over Sharp Hill and felt the spiritual weight of the event, remaining in reverence and expectation as leaders ascended the hill guided by heavenly direction. For the author, this night revealed not only divine power but also the responsibility that rests upon each disciple—a call to repentance, faithfulness, and support for prophetic leadership. His testimony concludes with a powerful statement: “We have a Prophet among us… He guides us, teaches us, and calls us to repentance.”

If Diego’s text highlights visible signs and extraordinary manifestations, Sister Rafaela Berger ‘s article illuminates another equally powerful sphere of revelation: the transformation of spiritual understanding through doctrine. In her study of the 2020 revelation, Rafaela emphasizes the magnitude of the divine pronouncement that all are accepted by God, including LGBT people, reaffirming principles present from the 1611 King James Bible to the Book of Mormon. The author shows that this revelation does not inaugurate a new commandment, but restores an ancient and neglected truth: Christ’s invitation has always been universal. No one is rejected because of their nature—what matters, according to the Doctrine and Covenants, is a “broken heart and a contrite spirit.”

Rafaela emphasizes that this inclusion does not eliminate the law, but extends it equally to all. “If everyone is accepted, everyone will be judged equally by the same law,” she declares. The 2020 revelation heals wounds, undoes centuries of exclusion, and restores spiritual dignity to many who, before, could never even approach the covenants. Now, each person is called to live holiness with freedom, integrity of identity, and responsibility.

By combining both texts, we perceive two complementary dimensions of God’s work in these last days: the signs that awaken the spirit to the living presence of heaven and the doctrinal revelations that reorganize, purify, and expand collective understanding. While Diego recounts a celestial movement that rekindles the sense of mission and spiritual urgency, Rafaela presents the theological framework that prepares the people to receive this work with maturity, justice, and true compassion.

The heavens speak both through lights that pierce the night and through words that break with human traditions. And by integrating these two voices—experience and doctrine—we realize that God is calling His people to a new level of commitment: more open, more responsible, more consecrated, and more aware of the great work unfolding before us.

May each disciple, upon reading the testimonies of Diego and Rafaela, recognize that signs and revelations are not ends in themselves, but divine invitations to live with renewed faithfulness, broader love, and deeper spiritual vision.
